Camp Heritage

Steph’s spending a few quality days with family and I thought I’d just mosey down to Pensacola, FL and unwind on a beach. I figured the driving out to be eight hours and then realized I wasn’t up for it. I need a break, take a short drive and settle down in a campground somewhere.

There are two types of historic downtown’s in these old cities. Those that are revitalized with small businesses catering to tourists and those that aren’t. Jackson was the latter, with derelicts and street people just wandering around aimlessly.

I found a campground called camp Heritage, Inn Humboldt. It’s got everything I need to relax: showers, wi-fi, A/C, swimming pool… It’s even got a Mexican restaurant nearby where I just had a great Shrimp Chimichanga, minus the cheese. :-)

I’ll regroup here and plan my day for tomorrow. Oh, they also have HBO!

  1. Have you been to Memphis? See Elvis’ Graceland, listen to blues on Beale St.? I’m not sure but Marilyn’s son Paul has a wife in Memphis and when he’s there he plays at the clubs there. That’s where he recorded “Blues is my business and business is good.” Have a nice vacation. I understand that So.Carolina has some great beaches , too. Is that closer than Florida?

  2. First off, let’s be clear. If I got within 10 miles of Graceland and Steph wasn’t in the truck, I’d be a dead man :-) Got to steer clear of Memphis for the time being…

I’m really going to put some effort into finding a cool campground (or lake/river) around here. I know you’ve been reading lately (as had I been before this trip) about the heatwave here. Morning thunderstorms turn afternoons into saunas.

Also someplace with minimal driving. The return trip through the south-end starts in a few days… Thanks for the suggestions Skoge and enjoy the S.F. fog.

  3. Hey sweetie, glad you found a great spot for the day! Take some pictures. Dillan and I are playing Monopoly right now, great quality time :-) Have a fun time.

  4. You’re on the East of the USA and I’m on the West, it sure feels a long way away. I’ll be glad when you get home. Are you tired of driving? Have you been in any of that bad weather?

  5. It depends on your definition of bad weather Carol. If you mean temperatures over a hundred with insane high humidity, yep! If you mean thunderstorms with hail that last all night, yep! If you mean downpours so heavy you can’t see the car if front of you, yep. If you mean those swirly things that pick up your car and carry it a few miles, nope :-)
