Media Issues

We’ve got a pretty cool TV setup here, when it works. There’s an $8 a month Netflix account and an $80 a year Amazon Prime account feeding two Rokus, one in my office and one in the family room. There’s also an outside HD antenna bringing in local channels broadcast off the mountain.

Last night we watched Captain Phillips in my office, streaming from Amazon. When I woke up this morning I switched over to the antenna, and there was nothing.

Are you kidding me? This is Hawks in the Super Bowl day! I’m not sure what’s going on, maybe their transmitter went down, but I ain’t going to any local bar this afternoon. I realized that I needed a backup Roku option so I went searching. I should also mention we’re paying Silverstar a tidy sum for a sweet internet hookup here in the valley.

I found a great service called USTVnow which offers a free account to stream live TV to our Rokus, including a Fox channel from the east coast. I signed up and now we have a whole new option for off the grid TV. Super Bowl at home is back on! If I chose to pay for their premium service I suppose it would rival cable, but I’m not there yet.

On a final media note, Dawn Moore and Holly Palance. I bet you have no idea who these women are other than being business partners in a distinctive antiques site called mixxcentury.com.

Dawn is Clayton Moore’s daughter and Holly is Jack Palance’s daughter. I’m really old and their fathers have relevance to me, and if you’re younger, perhaps not.

Clayton was the Lone Ranger and Jack was a famous old actor in his time.

I’m only sharing this information here because I’ve been immersed in movie data lately while developing Rahton. I hope you enjoy this simple trivia.
