Wood Cover

The kids bought themselves a cord of wood for their Seattle winter and of course Riley had to build a shelter for it.

Sticky

I knew something was going on this morning when Piper didn’t walk over my feet in bed at 0510, trying to get me up. I found her in my office stalking the mouse that’s been plaguing our house for the last couple of days.

She had it trapped behind the bookshelf and was dutifully keeping watch on both sides. I slid a sticky mouse trap underneath and after a couple cups of coffee, I moved the bookshelf away from the wall. Trapped! (no, I didn’t know junk was back there :-)

I used the end of a small rake to pick the trap up by it’s sticky surface and then paraded it around the house for Piper to see and for Steph to yell at me to get it out of the house. It ended up alive, inside a trash bag, in our garbage can. It’s probably still dying a slow death and I feel bad. I don’t kill things that have two eyes, a nose and a mouth but I see no other options. I can’t pry it loose from the sticky pad and set it loose in the field…

I also had new snow tires mounted on my truck this morning. We get our buses serviced at All American Tire in Victor, and Hal gave me a great deal on four Hankook’s. I drove the Chevy bus last winter with this brand installed, and loved them.

The final step to winterizing my truck is to put the Old Heavy TV over the rear axle. I’ve done this in winter’s past but this time I’ve secured it solidly with bungee cords. I may do some traveling this winter, and I ain’t going to be sleeping here, so why not?

And I go to bed sad, thinking about that mouse…

Sunday morning update: I went out to the garbage can and pulled the bag out. That little sucker had freed itself from the sticky pad and clawed through the plastic bag, which meant he was having a field day in our garbage can. Good for him, and on Tuesday (garbage day) he will have new territory to explore at the county dump.

I feel so much better :-)
