Burn Ban Lifted

We’ve been dealing with terrible wildfire smoke all summer. Our local fire department has had a big sign posted by their building stating that a Burn Ban was in effect.

The smoke finally cleared out a bit so they dropped the ban. As soon as that happened our local farmers set their fields on fire!!!

Come on neighbors, is burning your harvested crop that important to your bottom line? I know you’ve been doing it forever, and your parents and grand-parents did it, but isn’t there a better way to get nutrients back into the ground, then to pollute our valley?

Spot Hog

Some people just don’t get it. I was sitting in my bus today at Office Number 1 (the Broulims Parking Lot) and watched this guy pull in on a busy afternoon and proceed to occupy four parking spots.

After he gingerly walked into the store I went over and took this shot. I’m assuming the disability that warranted his sticker is severe mental retardation!

It looks here like he’s got a trailer attached. Nope, it’s just his truck!

The Thing

I pulled up to the Community School yesterday and Finn came running out of Amber’s class and jumped on board. I told him to leave his backpack on the bus and relax because we had a few minutes. He got off the bus and was standing next to the entity you see below. I asked him if it had a name, and he said “It’s just the thing“.

As I was taking pictures of it this sweet voice came from my left. “Jim, if you take the shot from here, you can see the eye!” It was my buddy Samantha who’s been riding with me for years but her dad picks her up now. I love these kids, and this school! This is the shot from Sammy’s perspective.

Vactor 2100

Our Teton Valley is really full of crap (apparently). Last year they started the pipeline project to pump sewage from Victor to Driggs, and downtown Victor has been a construction mess since I got back, hooking up their sewer systems to the new pipeline.

If you head west on Bates Rd out of Driggs you can’t miss the new treatment plant under construction. It’s big and it’s employing a lot of people. That’s good…

Today I discovered this amazing vehicle sharing our fifth street base with us. It’s the Vactor 2100 Plus, a state of the art sewer cleaner for cleaning wastewater and sanitary systems. This is one tricked out truck! I bet it would work great on our home septic tank.

Bugging The Cat

Piper was laying out on the grass yesterday, soaking up rays and knowing that four feet of snow is going to be in that spot shortly. I had just finished eating fried chicken for dinner and then went out and messed with her.

Notice how she keeps sniffing my hand :-)
