Cupcakes

Steph went to a baby shower the other night and the only food they served was a bunch of small cakes, baked in thin paper cups, with frosting and sprinkles.

This is the photo she took at the event, and I just had to paint it, before posting it.

Maybe I had a bad experience with cupcakes as a kid, but I just can’t eat them…

Photo Viewer

The Photo Viewer is launched when a photo is clicked. It’s an integral part of my FKScan sub-system, and I’ve implemented it here within the blog.

I went a bit overboard with the app, bringing in all sorts of info from the Flickr API, that most users don’t care about. Today I went in and striped that code out.

If you avoided clicking a photo because of the load time, that’s solved. Click away!

Controlled Burn

Here we go again, another Managed Fire from our Federal Friends. Events like this really make me wonder about Government created agencies encroaching on our lives.

They claim it’s in our best interest: keep fires down, help the animals, blah blah blah… Looks like a fire to me! And how many bears are going to run into our yard to escape it!

Last year the smoke around the valley was terrible. Hurt a lot of peoples lungs…

The shot below was taken today from the edge of our driveway…

Meet Jack

Jack introduced himself to me on a hot day on Interstate 84, due west of Boise, Idaho, six years ago. We were coming out of Ontario, Oregon where he just had his new boxed 350 engine installed. We were flying down the road, burning it in, when he spoke.

It’s a strange phenomenon, but some vehicles go right into my brain and say hello. I’ve also had some that absolutely refuse to identify themselves. If you follow this blog, you know our other vehicle is named Lucy. A very sweet girl :-)

So without further ado, meet Jack:

Update: Forgot to mention that he’s a lifted 1979 Chevrolet Silverado.

Drama Queen

We have 70 trees on the property, not counting the big ones by the creek. A lot of them are pine trees, so they just drop their seeds in the form of manageable pine cones.

The others are leafy girls that are great to enjoy during the summer, but a pain to clean up after. A grass guru friend of mine says we have to get those leaves off the lawn, before the snow, to protect it. Apparently they produce a harmful acid as they decompose.

This particular girl always dumps her leaves first, every year!

And as to why I attach gender to things, I don’t know. Why do I call my truck Jack?

Stream Bed

During the spring and summer, the snow melting off the Tetons provides us a babbling brook at the edge of our property. The water belongs to some farmer down stream, so all we can do is enjoy it, and maintain it.

In the fall it dries up, and this year left behind this cool moss!

Here’s a Video of the stream, shot in early July.

Stalker

Piper is waiting patiently for her next rodent victim to appear.
Spotted! She begins to stealthily approach her prey.
Ooops… Looks like a quick potty break is needed in the big litter box.
Now the lioness is ready to hunt!
If she doesn’t fall asleep first…
I guess the hunt is over. She’s coming back home to eat.
But wait! Nourished and rested, she’s back at it, with a mole in scent.
Now she’s on it, if that mole dares to take her on, he’s toast.
I love having a hunting cat around, the moles ruin our ground.

Update: Steph said the most recent kill had a pointy nose, so all references to voles have been changed to moles. I guess we have both around here…
