Bates View

Today was beautiful here in the Valley, cold in the morning and warm and clear in the afternoon, yielding this gorgeous view out on Bates Road. This is one of the pluses of living here, which makes up for the total lack of business integrity that seems to permeate this place.

My list of businesses I won’t ever have anything to do with again, grew by one today and it far outweighs the list of businesses I like. This is really sad because I strongly believe in shopping locally.

I took my truck down to Table Rock Auto early this morning for a clutch job that I had setup on Monday. I then called the young guy that runs the place to inform him that my truck was there, per our appointment, and ready to be worked on. When I went down there this afternoon he hadn’t even moved it into his shop. Excuse me? I got my truck out of there quickly, he just lost a bunch of money, and I’ll never deal with him again!

Oh well, it is pretty here…

Shadows

I’ve made some subtle cosmetic adjustments to the appearance of my blog this evening, adding shadows and spacing the menu out…

1.5 Million

McAfee Stinger is a sweet little utility that I’ve used over the years to scan friends computers for viruses. Just for the heck of it I grabbed the latest version and ran it against my very tight system. A little under two hours and 1,552,028 files later I proved to myself that what I’m doing security wise, works great.

I don’t believe in anti-virus software, it’s just resource sucking crap. Give me a good firewall anytime! The only real question here is how in the hell have I acquired this many individual files when I keep my system so trimmed down?

Megatron

Took my travel truck down to Rexburg today and I noticed her pulling slightly to the right. She and I are taking a big drive in a couple of weeks down to the land of sun and bikinis with an old London Bridge and there are a few mechanical things to wrap up before we go, including this new issue.

Found a great auto shop next to Walmart and told them to rotate the tires, do an align and check out my battery, which was getting old. The diagnosis was that the front bearings need repacking before an align and I needed a new battery, so I bought this monster and we’ll do the repack and alignment next Saturday.

A new clutch and main seal should also be going in next week and I’ll soon be owning Spring Break and Summer Vacation once again!

Jimmy

For years now I’ve been giving my Joshua Smith boys (aka: The Gang) a hard time when they start complaining about how old they are. A lot of birthdays have come and gone now and many times I’ve gotten on the intercom to say “Hey, quit bitching, I’m the oldest guy on the bus!” I know this because I’ve asked them their age over the years.

Today I discovered I’ve been wrong. We have one guy in the gang that never speaks. I call him Quiet Jimmy and I really admire him. He never says a word but I watch his eyes and I know he listens and understands everything going on around him. One day I needed signatures from the gang and his was clear and concise, the best of the bunch.

The boys told me that tomorrow is Jimmy’s birthday and for the first time ever I asked how old he was. Turns out he’s about five months older than me and I’ll be damned if he hasn’t got way more hair than me!

I think this made my day…

Dirty Snow

As mud season approaches and giant mounds of plowed snow shrink, a lot of dirty snow art begins to appear. This bad boy was strutting his stuff in front of Family Dollar today.

Below The Fold

I’ve been trying to determine where to place external JavaScript files within HTML5 in relation to loading jQuery and have concluded that it needs to occur below-the-fold, below jQuery, and then inserted into the DOM asynchronously. I’ve implemented the technique into my latest project.

Uh-oh, a recent study found that many Americans are lost when it comes to tech-related terms, with 11% saying that they thought HTML, a language that is used to create websites, was a sexually transmitted disease!

I guess I better get off this tech talk thing and start showing pretty pictures again…

My Oh My

David Greys song has been stuck in my head all morning as the storm that hammered California has settled in over our Valley for a good dumping. I keep wondering when it’s ever going to stop…
