Six Flasks

It started last night. I asked Riley what I could do to help out with the wedding. He said “I need six flasks, one for each bridegroom”. He wanted to put Jack Daniels in them.

So, I started out this morning in Riley’s other jeep, to see some old haunts, take some pictures and get up into Seattle to find some flasks.

I grabbed some 7-11 coffee and hit the Green River. An old favorite, still great.

Then I headed to the Des Moines pier. I needed to see and smell the ocean. Ahhh…

As I was heading to the mall to catch a 150 bus to Seattle, smoke started coming out of the Jeeps engine compartment. I checked it out, found nothing, but decided to take the vehicle home. Plans had changed…

After parking the jeep I hoofed it a mile to the nearest bus stop and started a weird bus trip that ended up at the Westfield Mall at 2pm. Too late for Seattle, especially on a Friday, so I hung at the mall.

Visited BusDriver Jim’s for a while :-)

Finally headed back to Kent to see my old friends at the Chinese restaurant. Ooops…

But I scored the flasks at the last minute in a smoke shop on the hill. The guy offered me six bucks a piece for six nine dollar flasks. Sweet!

Steph

I was perusing the blog tonight and I kept noticing references to Steph. I then realized I had no pictures of this mysterious live-in roommate lover of mine. I shower with her every morning, I sleep with her at night, but she is nowhere to be found on my blog.

So, to correct this issue, here’s Steph:

360 Vodka

Just got a great gift from a local therapist here. I bring her patients to her on time, and I guess she appreciates me. I’m going to pop this open when we get to Riley’s house tomorrow. Did I mention that Riley & Jessica are getting married?

Giraffe

While I was spending this Sunday tweaking code in my office, Steph was sewing curtains for her bosses twin daughters rooms, and making a giraffe for her own son, Junior.

Actually, for his girlfriend. Not sure why she needed a giraffe, but I think Steph has a brand new creation she can add to her impressive collection of unique crafts.

Update: Here’s the finished product, with the mane and the tail:

Piper, The Video

Piper is a terrific, sweet cat! She hangs out with dignity, doesn’t walk around crying, like some cat’s I’ve known, and loves to be petted.

She also has reflexes like a cat :-) and can kill rodents. So here’s a video of our new baby:

Jackson, Wyoming

It’s 35 miles from my house to downtown Jackson. Did you know that the town is called Jackson, and the valley it resides in is called Jackson Hole? Yep.

There is a major mountain pass in between, so the drive is not trivial. I decided to mosey over there today, get some shots, and see what’s happening.

I ran into a big tourist crowd for the Saturday market. It was too busy to even take photos so I slipped into the park and snapped one off.

I then worked my way between baby strollers, and dogs fighting, to the downtown area. Empty! This is significant, Jackson has gone from upscale shopping, to farmers market.

Heading back home, I stopped and shot the back side of the Grand Tetons.
But of course, Jackson people consider them the front side :-)

BLT Fridays

The Farmers Market runs every Friday during the summer. Teton Valley has several organic farms ( Snowdrift,  Cosmic Apple ), and they bring their goodies here.

Once you taste a fresh organic tomato, it’s hard to even look at tomato’s in the grocery store. This beauty here weighs 1.3 pounds, is perfectly ripe, and cost me 6 bucks. The green onions were pulled from the ground this morning, are two feet in length, and cost me a buck.

So, come supper time on Friday we slice up a tomato, cook up some thick sliced bacon, combine with fresh market bread and local grown lettuce, and have the finest Bacon Lettuce and Tomato sandwich on the planet.

And no, the green onions don’t go on the sandwich. We use the left over tomato, along with green onions, to compliment salads during the week.

My Videos

I’ve consolidated all of my videos into the Videos page, on the Main Menu above. This represents every video I’ve shot over the years, some lame, some great.

Emporium

This is the north side of the Victor Emporium, an eclectic place in Victor, ID that sells Huckleberry milkshakes and fishing licenses. I was chilling here today until 1130, to get a great burger around the corner next door, while my bus got serviced down the street.

The Permanent Cat

Looking back on the temporary cat’s first appearance at the sliding glass door, I realize she was presenting herself to us. She sat up proud and straight, like an Egyptian princess.

What did I do? Chase her off the deck because baby Robins were on the ground. I still feel bad…

But she didn’t go, she got to the end of the deck and stopped. It was like “I just gave myself to you, and I’m not leaving” and she ran back past me and dove down under the deck. It took me a day to get her out. The rain soaking her between the boards finally convinced her. As she came in the house, she surrendered herself to me on her back, so I could dry her off with paper towels.

I’ve always thought it was the humans role to pick a pet, but I sure was wrong. Everything has conspired towards this cat being in our lives. She chose us, and her owner Megan just gave her to us today.

Welcome Piper!

Note: She’s also proved to be a great hunter. We found a very dead vole in the yard recently, and Steph saw her kill a mouse yesterday. Piper suffered a puncture wound from the vole, but has healed nicely, thank you…

Afternoon Wood

Steph has been trouncing around the back forty lately, killing stuff with a gas-powered weed eating machine. She came in today and handed me this little thing that had stuck in her shoe. It’s less then an inch long, hard, and looks like wood.

Hawk On Barn

I see so much wildlife action around me as I drive, it’s hard to keep up. Here’s a painting of a noisy hawk taking ownership of an old barn roof. Shot this morning…
