Creekside

I was driving on the Old Jackson Hwy today and pulled over to take this shot out my drivers side window. This is Moose Creek just before it merges with Trail Creek. (map)

Hard Labor

Steph finally got her butt outside to get the snow off the hottub lid. Unfortunately she had to dig a trail on the deck to get there so I apologize that the video runs just shy of three minutes. It’s hard to get good help these days that will work within my demanding time constraints. Oh well…

Not So Hot

Our poor dead hottub, murdered by Fall River Electric when they cut our power a couple of months back, needs some snow removal, if she can reach it. Notice I said she, I ain’t going out there because my slippers are glued to my feet.

A refresher: Our power was shut down that day and when it came back on it blew the hottub’s fuse. We keep it going all winter but when we checked it the following weekend to top off the water, it was frozen solid.

Elk Herd

I was just stepping into my warmed up truck in the driveway this morning when Steph yelled out Elk Herd! I scrambled for my camera in my bag as a large herd went rambling by our house heading towards Ski Hill Road. I must have pushed the wrong buttons because most of the video was trashed but I extracted a short clip and created a loop.

The herd was huge, much larger than this video shows. Pretty cool having nature in your backyard. Steph’s boss told her they were probably down here in the valley to avoid the wolves. Makes sense to me…

Borehole B944

On February 1, a seismometer inside a borehole at Yellowstone National Park started going crazy. I’m a pretty connected guy and I didn’t find out about it until yesterday, which indicates to me that the government powers that be didn’t want us to know about it. Well, it’s all over the place now.

I’ve grabbed a couple of shots showing the activity, for us all to make our own conclusions. Needless to say, Yellowstone blowing up would not be a good thing.

Especially since the borehole is only 53 miles from our little town…

Update: Now it’s all over the Internet that it was an equipment malfunction.

Who knows?

Valentine BS

Ah, here we go, another manufactured holiday being jammed down our throat just to sell candy, cards, flowers and jewelry. If you’re in a relationship and you don’t buy into it you’re an asshole that should be banned to the couch for a month.

Today I heard a radio ad for roses that screamed buy them now claiming the price will double next week! That’s just plain extortion. Oh, and if you don’t go to Jared’s you’re a cheap bastard and every kiss begins with Kay’s. Really?

They always back these holidays up with a legendary character like saint valentine or saint nick. I’m just so fed up with this manipulation of America. Fahck you retailers, and Suhck my saint dick! (I can use those words because I created them :-)

On that note, I’ll be handing out Valentine gifts to my riders next week. Not because I have to but because my kids expect it, and Steph created them. I’m discovering that as I get older, bullshit becomes more obvious, and my attitude dissolves into pissed-offness.

Pinteresting

Do you have a Pinterest account? I do, I was actually an early adapter. I started building up some boards and actually enjoyed putting up original pins and never liked or repined another pin. I’ve backed off considerably over the last year but I notice people frequently re-pinning pins and following my boards.

I’m now on the verge of having 1,000 Pinterest followers. This blows my mind considering I don’t have anywhere near that many people following my blog :-) Here’s my main Pinterest page, my latest pins and to honor this interesting milestone, here’s my version of the pinterest zombie.

My World

Welcome to my world. Broad expanses of undisturbed white with roads that rival skating rinks. This stretch south of Victor is totally devoid of any sort of vehicle or animal tracks. Pretty cool actually. Or should I say cold…

Media Issues

We’ve got a pretty cool TV setup here, when it works. There’s an $8 a month Netflix account and an $80 a year Amazon Prime account feeding two Rokus, one in my office and one in the family room. There’s also an outside HD antenna bringing in local channels broadcast off the mountain.

Last night we watched Captain Phillips in my office, streaming from Amazon. When I woke up this morning I switched over to the antenna, and there was nothing.

Are you kidding me? This is Hawks in the Super Bowl day! I’m not sure what’s going on, maybe their transmitter went down, but I ain’t going to any local bar this afternoon. I realized that I needed a backup Roku option so I went searching. I should also mention we’re paying Silverstar a tidy sum for a sweet internet hookup here in the valley.

I found a great service called USTVnow which offers a free account to stream live TV to our Rokus, including a Fox channel from the east coast. I signed up and now we have a whole new option for off the grid TV. Super Bowl at home is back on! If I chose to pay for their premium service I suppose it would rival cable, but I’m not there yet.

On a final media note, Dawn Moore and Holly Palance. I bet you have no idea who these women are other than being business partners in a distinctive antiques site called mixxcentury.com.

Dawn is Clayton Moore’s daughter and Holly is Jack Palance’s daughter. I’m really old and their fathers have relevance to me, and if you’re younger, perhaps not.

Clayton was the Lone Ranger and Jack was a famous old actor in his time.

I’m only sharing this information here because I’ve been immersed in movie data lately while developing Rahton. I hope you enjoy this simple trivia.

Chilli

I whipped up a pot of chilli today using Bob’s Red Mill 13 bean soup mix. Added in some onion, red pepper, jalapeno, garlic, tomatoes and some fine steak. Steph just made some cornbread muffins and I’m going to go eat! Super Bowl ribs tomorrow…

Beans: Navy, Black, Red, Pinto, Baby Limas, Large Limas, Garbanzo, Great Northern and Kidney Beans, Black-Eyed Peas, Yellow Split Peas, Green Split Peas, and Lentils.
