Young Moose

I spotted an animal out of the corner of my eye while driving today, and I suspected moose. Sure enough, upon closer inspection it turn out to be a young moose. It didn’t mind my presence at all while munching out on something.

Hijacked

It’s been an interesting Thursday. I managed to slip home on break today and work on a couple of computer things. I have this Yahoo! e-mail account that I never use but it’s locked into my Flickr Pro account which hosts all of my photos (unlimited, $25 a year…). I figured it would be a good throw-away account for sites that need an e-mail. Not thinking, I decided to port my g-mail contacts list over to it. Stupid!

The conversion routine gave me the option of not e-mailing my contacts regarding the process, but they lied and sent a spam email to each contact. If I didn’t need my Flickr account I would have terminated all Yahoo! association immediately! I’ve had a great working relationship with Yahoo! and their API’s for more than ten years now. This move pissed me off! If you have a Yahoo! e-mail, dump it!

I’ve since sent Please delete, don’t open! e-mails to all of my contacts.

On another note, I was sitting in the hot-tub with Steph tonight and I was teasing her about Obama Care taking care of her when she’s old. She said something about this making her want to throw up!

I told her acid-reflex should be covered and she said “You mean asshole reflex?” Apologies to my liberal friends, you know who you are :-)

Hay Ride

I spotted a horse drawn wagon cruising along Second Ave today and they stopped for me to snap a picture. Turned out it was the entire Head Start group. A bunch of these little characters are my regulars, but I’m not pointing them out :-)

They obviously were enjoying their ride, as was the unknown lady on the end. Probably a mom… And the crusty old driver? Priceless!

Another Piper

As everyone who follows this blog even slightly knows, our cat’s name is Piper. We kept her name after the original owner Megan, who bottle fed her from an abandoned kitten, graciously gave her to us almost two years ago. I’m a numerologist that firmly believes in original bestowed names and never thought for a moment to change her name.

The name Piper is definitely female and has been growing in popularity over the years:

  • Piper Laurie, actress (born Rosetta Jacobs).
  • Piper Maru, daughter of actress Gillian Anderson.
  • Piper Palin, daughter of GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin.
  • Piper Perabo, actress (Coyote Ugly, Cheaper by the Dozen, Imagine Me & You etc).
  • Piper Gilles, American ice dancer.

Just recently my friend Tori’s daughter Piper began riding my bus from the Community School. (story here). We joked about having the only Pipers in the Valley.

Well now there are three. I’ve recently began picking up some kids from the Victor Elementary on Tuesday, along with my Community School kids, and one of the new girls is named Piper. They were both on my bus yesterday for the drive to Driggs!

What are the odds of having three Pipers hanging out in your life space at one time?

Rain Spout

I was leaving our base yesterday and spotted this mean looking cloud hanging out over downtown Driggs. I didn’t have my camera so I grabbed this shot with my smart phone.

Shorts

There’s a popular saying around here that I’ve often heard quoted but never experienced, until now. The adage: “Never drop your shorts on the deck after a decadent afternoon of hot-tubbing in the Spring” is very true…

Flickr Categories

I store all of my photos on a Flickr Pro account. The number of photos I can upload is unlimited and I qualify for the ability to group my photo Sets into Categories. Yesterday I created 32 categories and then assigned all of my photo sets into those categories.

As of this post I have 325 sets containing 2,894 photos. That’s a lot of digital content to present to my visitors so this new Category feature breaks it down into meaningful categories that are now somewhat manageable.

I’ve also mastered Collapsible Lists! This has been a jQuery feature I’ve been chasing for a while. The way it works is to click a category and the sets within that group drop down. Click a new category and the previous sets are hidden while the new sets are displayed.

You can launch the internal app Here or the mobile app Here.

White Spring

I went down to Lake Havasu recently for internal battery recharging and it worked well. I’m home now, and my recharge is draining fast. This is our deck, shot today…

Engagement

It’s great when family and friends come together and in this case, literally. My niece Catherine and my friend Dave are getting married here in August.

The wedding is shaping up as the local social event of the year with many more friends and family arriving from all over the country!

River View

It seems that everytime I head out towards the foothills to get Dorthy to the hairdresser, I land a nice shot. It was beautiful here in the Valley today and the Teton River was vibrant with color. It’s also pretty obvious how the river got it’s name…

Left Behind

A little girl tweaked my heart this afternoon. I only had two kids from the Comm school, sisters, about five and four. The bus was quiet as I waited for a teacher to board the bus with their punch card.

The older girl made eye contact with me in the mirror and said Jim, why did you leave me that day? Gulp… I suddenly realized that she was the one that completely missed the bus a couple of months ago. A new teacher was responsible for getting her on the bus before my absolute latest pullout time, and she failed to do so.

I told the girl that I really didn’t leave her that day, because I didn’t know she was riding. She said Oh, OK! This has obviously been bothering her and that’s all she needed to hear. She was smiling as we left the school.

If you’re reading this dispatch Sally, yep, this is the one where the angry teacher called. She understands now that this is public transportation, not the schools private bus :-)

Drying Out

Sitting at the Community School in Victor today I remembered the last snow covered photo I shot from here. It’s looking good and dry now and hopefully it will continue to roll this way on into Summer!

This is what it looked like two months ago….

The blue roofed building on the left is the classroom for the 5th and 6th graders. Did I mention this is an award winning school!

Elevated Nap

This nap position is kind of strange. Piper has many Beds around the house, to facilitate her many naps, but she chose to lean into the edge of the family room sofa for this one.

New Table

A new dining room table has entered our home and it fits right into our rustic space! As I’m creating this post, Steph is replacing the artwork on the left with a painting of wild horses. I’ll post the new art here later…

Cow 9231

We have a lot of cows in the Valley, but 9231 is special. Every time I take a drive down Packsaddle Road I see this animal standing by the side of the road, staring at me. I’ve come to recognize it by the number tag and sometimes I have dreams about Cow 9231
